Two Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, with ties to the Diocese of Corpus Christi are celebrating Jubilees this year.

Mayor Pro tem Leonardo Valdez proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day in Taft during the June 12 City Council meeting.  District VI; Society 118 Taft from the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – KJZT (CFFT-KJZT) proudly accepted the proclamation and joins 59 other member societies of the American Fraternal Alliance in doing the same.

On June 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Portland Msgr. Mark Chamberlin celebrated the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination with many of his beloved friends and parishioners from throughout the diocese.

Incarnate Word Academy senior David Pierce was presented with an academic scholarship valued over $16,000 to attend Texas A&M University—Kingsville (TAMUK) courtesy of CITGO on June 12.

St. Anthony School kindergarten and eighth Grade students graduated on May 23.

Alfred Lopez and Katy Velazco-Lopez worked continuously to provide a Catholic education for their children. They both still reside in Corpus Christi and are proud parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (28 years married strong). This past Memorial Day week the last Lopez kid graduated from Catholic School.

Office of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Corpus Christi held a professional development day for second through fifth-grade teachers June 4 and sixth through twelfth-grade teachers on June 5 at the Education Service Center. On these same days, early childhood and first-grade teachers attended their development day at the Early Scholars Academy run by the Education Service Center, Region 2.

Pastor Father Angel Montana, pastor of celebrated the Feast Day of Corpus Christi with Mass and procession at Sacred Heart Church in Corpus Christi on June 2.

Sister Denise Cassidy, IWBS went home to God on June 4. She had recently celebrated 60 years of consecrated life.

Bishop Michael Mulvey celebrated Mass for the Feast of Corpus Christi, the titular feast for the Diocese of Corpus Christi, on Sunday, June 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Cathedral.

David Spesia has been appointed as Executive Director of the Secretariat of Evangelization and Catechesis for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

Bishop Michael Mulvey ordained Richard Gutierrez, Ramiro “RJ” Regalado, Jr. and Santos Ruben Jones III to the diaconate at Corpus Christi Cathedral on June 3. For Gutierrez and Regalado this will be a transitional period. The next step in their formation will be ordination to the priesthood, whereas Jones is ordained to the permanent diaconate.

Since he became a single parent thirteen years ago, Paul Jimenez has always put his children’s needs before his own. He makes sure his children are happy, safe, well fed, protected and well educated. His daughter, Lydia, now a junior and his son, Paul, currently a freshman have been attending Incarnate Word Academy since they were able to go to school.
