Camp Aranzazu’s 11
th annual “Zazu Fishing and Fun” will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 at the camp’s 104-acre facility in Rockport. Register today and help underwrite the cost of camp for children and adults with special needs and chronic illnesses.
The day will promptly begin at sunrise with a fishing tournament, but even those who do not fish are welcome to attend and enjoy the fun. Guests can tour the camp’s idyllic setting on Copano Bay, enjoy a barbecue dinner and live music and bid on some great trips, outdoor gear and other auction items.
Last year’s event was the biggest ever, drawing 375 people and raising $190,000. These funds helped underwrite a week at camp for 170 children and adults with special needs and chronic illnesses.
Virginia Ballard, Camp Aranzazu president, said the purpose of the event is to raise money to continue underwriting the cost of camp and also introduce more people—particularly in the Coastal Bend—to the camp.
“Most of these children would never be able to attend camp if it were not for Camp Aranzazu,” Ballard said. “However, many people are unaware that we exist or of the positive impact we have had on children.”
More than 60 percent of Camp Aranzazu’s campers come from Coastal Bend organizations, including Driscoll Children’s Hospital, Corpus Christi ISD Special Education and The Vine School.
Since 2006, approximately 24,500 children and adults have benefited from the camp’s unique form of recreational therapy.
Event registration is available at
