Communion and Liberation (CL), a Catholic lay movement founded by Monsignor Luigi Giussani, began in 1954 in Italy as a friendship with the mission of helping one another see the presence of Christ in their everyday life. Now spread in roughly 70 countries across the world, the charism of CL forms its members to be witnesses of the Christian event in all ambits of life – in work, culture, art, education, school, family, charitable works and even politics.
CL groups have been present throughout US for a few decades. The Fraternity of CL was recognized by Pope John Paul II in 1982.
