Incarnate Word Academy kicked off Red Ribbon Week with an important message to raise awareness on the problems of illegal drugs and drug abuse. Students wore red ribbons and learned about the ill effects of illegal drugs.
Elementary level students participated in the “We’re All A-Glow, We Say NO” pumpkin-decorating contest on Monday. Each classroom decorated a pumpkin, which remained on display outside each classroom door throughout the week.
Middle level students wore neon-colored clothing for their “Our Future is so Bright, We Don't Need Drugs” theme, while high school level students wore college T-shirts for their “Drugs Are Not in Your Future” theme.
On Tuesday, elementary level students participated in a bone scavenger hunt. The students brought their findings to lunch to create a big skeleton poster for the day’s “We are One Community” theme. Middle level students wore their favorite sport’s team attire for their “Team Up Against Drugs” theme, and high school level students wore bright and neon-colored clothing for their “We Are Too Bright for Drugs” theme.
A Halloween-themed poster contest at the elementary level on Wednesday was aimed on how to “Scare Away Drugs.” Middle level students wore as much red as possible for “Red Out for Red Ribbon Week,” while high school level students “Team[ed] Up Against Drugs” and wore their favorite team T-Shirt or sweater.
On Thursday, elementary and middle level students “Sock[ed] it to Drugs” by wearing Halloween-themed or bright-colored socks to school. High school level students wore camouflage shirts to school for their “Don't Let Drugs Sneak Up on You” theme.
Students participated in different classroom discussions and prayers throughout Red Ribbon Week.
“By participating in Red Ribbon Week events, Incarnate Word Academy and its students are striving to become an image of Christ within the community,” school Media Relations Specialist Dominique Damian said.
